4. Failure to pay dues for one year shall be considered as resignation from membership in this society.  A member who has been dropped from the roster shall be reinstated to continuous status by payment of arrears.

 

5. In the event of the termination and dissolution of the Washington, DC Branch of the American Society for Microbiology, the then remaining assets would be distributed according to designation by the then executive committee to a non-profit organization qualifying under Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code for 1954 – revised March 1979.


 

ARTICLE VI (OFFICERS AND OFFICIALS)

 

 1. The officers of this Society shall be: a PRESIDENT, a PRESIDENT-ELECT, a SECRETARY, and a TREASURER.

 

2. Officers must be active or life members of the Washington branch and be members of the American Society for Microbiology.  Officers should be able and willing to attend executive and branch meetings.  The duties of each officer shall be those usually pertaining to the office. They are as follows:

 

President: Responsible for calling, setting agenda and presiding at meetings of the Society.  Chief operating officer concerning all activities of the Society.

 

President-elect: Coordinate society scientific meetings and programs and aid president in fulfillment of society operations.

 

Secretary: Take and write-up minutes of all society meetings including branch and executive minutes and disseminate to executive officers and to the society newsletter Editor.  Communicate with the national society and aid the database manager and treasurer in keeping society records.  Deposit meeting minutes and all communications with the society archivist.

 

Treasurer: Responsible for all financial activities of the branch.  Keep society funds in a special society account, write and distribute checks to pay for Society obligations.  Keep a record of paid up members of the Society and transmit to the Database Manager.  Together with the secretary, newsletter editor and webmaster, solicit society dues.  Keep society financial records available for auditing.  Send copies of branch financial transactions and paid up members to the national society as requested.  Give financial reports at executive meetings and as requested by the president and president-elect.  deposit copies of all records with the archivist.
